Step by Step system

We strongly believe that you should have constant control not only of the quality of the work carried out, but also of the financial aspect of the project. Our Step By Step system delivers both. However, before you embark on a restoration project, the following points should be observed:

A restoration always costs more than you think, takes longer than you expect, if you do not do it properly you lose everything you invest and only do a restoration when you want to keep the car for the rest of your life.

Why use our Step By Step system?

  • Financial control
  • Fixed prices
  • Full or partial restoration
  • Visual confirmation

Weekly updates and invoices
Our project account provides an easy check on all figures. With weekly updates on the work scheduled and weekly invoices you gain full control into the financial aspects of the project.

When following our Step by Step System you always knows your bill totals, and no work will be carried out without your written approval. Payment of the restoration is by weekly prepayments, dependent on the size and agreed schedule of the restoration project. Thus, you are sure of having your restoration finished within your budget.

No surprises
Of the 15 Steps, 13 are agreed with the client at a fixed price. There are two Steps that cannot have fixed prices: Step 13;Parts, is calculated on a day price and Step 14;Final assembly, goes by the hourly rate of €110.

World class quality
A
ll work carried out is of world class quality. We guarantee all bodywork and paintwork restored by us, for 10 years against rot, on the conditions that ownership remains the same and that any accident repairs are done by Bart Holland, and that a yearly check is carried out.

In the course of these yearly checks, we can also carry out the MOT, complete any routine maintenance of the car, and give an appraisal certificate for insurance purposes.

A special trouble-free collection and transportation service of the car is also available, as is storage during winter, in dry and heated conditions.

You’re in the driving seat
After all 15 Steps have been carried out, you will have a completely restored car. However not all Steps may be necessary, as the decision depends strongly on the condition of the car and the wishes of the client.

A picture says more than a thousand words.
The many photographs taken each day and published to our website give full information about the work in progress.

On our website, each restoration has its own page where the photographic report of your restoration can be followed Step By Step.

Our Step by Step System divides
a restoration into 15 steps

Think of it as restoration a la carte. You choose what you want and when you want it. And like a good meal, every restoration all starts with the entrée or as we call it Step 1, the startwork.

Step 1

Startwork

Before a restoration starts, the car is thoroughly examined both technically and cosmetically, while the history and car numbers are researched in our own vast library, with its thousands of reference books and factory car manuals.

The fixed cost of this work is €750,-. The results are discussed with you and repair advice is given.

After the startwork you take the wheel

You decide what steps are taken and best of all, your car can be driven between Steps.
This means that you can still enjoy your car by restoring in winter, and driving in summer.

Step 2

Bodywork & panelwork

Fixed price for replacement/manufacturing/repair of corroded or damaged panels. We have very skilled craftsmen with sophisticated machinery, capable of working on steel, aluminium or glass-fibre, depending on the material from which the car has been built.

Step 3

Bodywork on chassis

If necessary the chassis can be
repaired or totally replaced.

At a fixed price.

Step 4

Paint job

Cars made during the first 20 years of the 20th century were hand painted and then polished. Because of the bad quality of lacquers from this period, clients tend to choose modern paints for the best possible preservation of their costly possession: invisible and always beautiful.

We give a fixed price for preparing the paintwork surfaces from bare metal.

Step 5

Chassis technical repairs

From repairing of brakes with hoses and pipes, to steering, to cooling systems with radiator, hoses and pipes, shock absorbers, front axle with suspension, stub axle, wheel bearings, leaf springs, petrol tank with hoses and pipes, rear axle with differential and drive axles, and wheels with tyres.

Fixed prices are given.

Step 6

Engine and gearbox overhaul

Fixed prices can be given for the overhaul and/or tuning of the engine and gearbox with, if necessary new main and big end bearings, cylinder linings, pistons with rings, timing chains and sprockets, valves with valve seats, springs and valve guides suitable for use with unleaded fuels, gaskets, test running and fine tuning. Everything that is necessary to bring your engine to top condition.

Step 13

Parts: buying and making

Through years of restorations, Bart Holland has established a worldwide network of suppliers that deliver parts.

However no fixed price can be given for parts, as we never know which parts are in perfect or used condition, and can be bought at varying prices.

In many cases parts are just that little bit different or of different quality, making repair or even remanufacturing sometimes necessary. Unfortunately this uncertainty comes to the surface only during the restoration.

See restorations
Step 14

Final Assembly

In the Step by Step System there are two Steps which do not carry a fixed price (Step 13 Parts Buying and Step 14 Final Assembly).

No fixed price can be given in this Step, that is calculated by the hourly rate of €110 + VAT. Final assembly is handwork and brings lots of uncertainties due to the unknown condition of the parts or the sudden malfunctioning of parts.

Beware: the final assembly can take up a significant part of the costs of a restoration.

Step 15

Delivery

Delivery of the car means testing of the car on the road for 500 miles and taking care of all problems that arise. The car is cleaned and polished.

Finally a restoration report with photographs is prepared, and an appraisal report given for insurance purposes.
